Haus Schneider Kätchen

The photos say enough. Johannes House may have been beautiful once, but now it’s dusty and dirty, with shabby furnishings and filthy mattresses. Outside, repairs are badly needed: the wooden deck is rotten, with holes and screws sticking out, while the mossy seating area is filthy and the chairs are broken. The cushions are dirty and torn, too. And the price is outrageous for all of this.

We’d happily return to Haus Schneider Kätchen, and arranging everything with the owner was completely easy. We came as seven adults and used it as a base for hiking. It’s in a very quiet spot in the village center, with a butcher and a small grocery shop nearby for basics. The garden is spacious, and the covered seating area is lovely for summer evenings together. The kitchen is really well equipped, too. Just be aware that the house looks larger in the photos than it is. We could just about all eat in the kitchen as a group of seven, but ten would be too cramped. The listed maximum of ten seems more suited to children, since the rooms and beds aren’t laid out very well for ten adults.

There’s a large garden with a barbecue, places to sit, and outdoor toys, and the village is a good starting point for several lovely walks. Inside, the living room is inviting for relaxed evenings, and the kitchen is very well equipped for a holiday rental. It’s a simple little house spread over three floors, with 3-4 sleeping areas for up to ten people, including four double beds and a bunk bed.

We were eight people and had plenty of bedrooms. Each of the three floors comes with a bathroom containing a shower and toilet. The kitchen has everything needed to cook, and the living room seats eight comfortably. There’s also a lovely garden with places to sit.
