Holiday Inn Dresden - Am Zwinger by IHG

The engineering man was helpful, quick, effective, and busy, busy, busy! The towel warmer was terrific too, keeping the bathroom, tile floor, and towels toasty warm. The towels were a nice size, even though we weren’t thirsty for them. Maddox in the restaurant is great. He graduated from apprentice training four months ago and is doing an excellent job, with a real can-do attitude. I saw him clear and clean all the tables after guests left, including the ones handled by other waiters. Another young man seemed focused on taking orders quickly and moving on to the next customer. He often said things couldn’t be done, while Maddox would look for an alternative or find a way to help. That other person seems like a real go-getter, but this doesn’t seem the right environment for him. Maybe a fast food chain would suit him better. Tony at reception is also ready to help. In the guest rooms with the shower and tub joined together, there’s just one container of body wash and shampoo, and no washcloths. Reaching either bottle from the tub could make someone break their neck. It’s poorly thought out.

The noise at night was the worst part for me. There was really loud bass from a nearby bar or club, and I could hardly sleep. I was here for work, so the long days were especially hard after such poor sleep. For the price, it wasn’t worth it. It’s pretty basic for a four-star hotel. The rooms were clean but worn down, with paint chipping in the bathroom, for example. After a long day of travel, the man at reception was extremely rude while checking me in and kept contradicting me, which was very strange. They only service rooms every other day and say it’s for energy efficiency, but I don’t see what energy they save by not making the bed or vacuuming the floor. Come on, I wasn’t born yesterday.

We only stayed a short time, but the location was great. The room was comfortable and clean, and the service was warm and friendly. A good experience :)

Breakfast was surprisingly good for the price, with plenty of tasty, well-prepared choices. The staff were all kind, and they warned me about a road closure caused by a political demonstration, which really helped me plan my travel the next day. My single room was moderate in size but laid out efficiently, with a comfortable queen bed and a nice bathroom. Everything looked new. I could hear quite a bit from upstairs and even feel thumps when doors closed, which was annoying but not a deal breaker. The room, hallways, lobby, and breakfast area all looked new and were very clean and well maintained. The location made it easy to walk almost everywhere. You get nice views of Zwinger on the way to the center, and trams and buses stop right out front. Great value for the price. Easily recommended!
