The rooms are small, no question, but you’re probably not coming to Dresden to sit in your room. They and the facilities are very clean, and the front desk was helpful and nice. We skipped breakfast, though the people eating it seemed happy. Having a kettle available in the evening was a great touch, we could make tea after a long day exploring Dresden. 👌 The Pöppelman hotel is an old river cruise ship moored in a quiet nook right in the middle of Dresden. It’s a unique stay, with lovely evenings on the back deck and the river all around: fish jumping, egrets along the banks, and light on the water. Both Old and New cities are close, on foot or by tram. One guest stomped to the restroom at night and kept me awake the first night. Please be considerate, the walls are very thin. He seemed to be gone the second night, and I slept fine. I’d stay here again without hesitation.

The rooms are good, and the shared bathrooms are clean. Breakfast is great too. It’s an easy recommendation for Dresden: close to both Altstadt and Neustadt, but just outside the center, so it stays peaceful.

The central location made it easy to see nearby sights on foot, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. We were also glad they provided gluten-free bread for breakfast when we asked. The place was cleaner and more attentive to detail than we expected. Rooms are compact compared with a typical hotel, but they really do feel like ship cabins. We had a very good three-night stay at Schiffsherberge and are looking forward to coming back.

Cosy and very clean, a good option for a short stay. The one downside is how hard it is to air out the room, which can leave it feeling stuffy.
