I paid in advance through booking.com for a particular room, but when I arrived I was told it was “fully booked.” They should not advertise rooms at a premium if they can’t provide them. I wasn’t told it was unavailable until I got there, and I assume they sold it to someone who hadn’t booked. Reception also wouldn’t answer the door or the phone, and I found spiders and webs in several corners. I’d seek a refund, but don’t expect to get one, so I’ve taken the issue up with booking.

The reception attendant was lovely, and the room was nice. Breakfast was decent, though a little pricey. I didn’t like having to pay for parking, which should be free. The restaurant and bar have both been closed since COVID, something I wish I’d known before booking. There’s basically nothing in the small town, so you have to drive a few kilometres to get food or a drink.

The beds and bedding were the most comfortable we’ve had in years, and the rooms were bright and spotless. We travel a lot and really enjoyed staying here. The family running the hotel provided very good service. We’d happily come back.

Breakfast had plenty of choice and was good, and the receptionist was kind and spoke English fluently. The room was spacious, with a sufficient bathroom, but it was very cold inside when it was 0 degrees outside. There was just one heater for both the room and bathroom, so the bathroom stayed freezing and showering was unpleasant.

I want to flag a few things now, though I’ll save my full opinion for a detailed review later. The room was decent, breakfast was included, and late check-in was possible. It’s about a five-minute drive from Duren Station. The place feels more like a restaurant than a hotel, and the rooms are detached from the restaurant, beside a busy road where traffic noise may be an issue. There’s no safe in the room. Please bear with me until I write more.
