Parking was difficult, and my room was pretty small. Still, it’s a clean, standard three-star hotel, and fine if you’re here on a business trip.
We were in Duisburg for a seminar and have already booked again for the next one. The building is a real eye-catcher, with lovely Art Nouveau style that makes a wonderful change from a high-rise hotel. The owner was incredibly friendly and shared some great dinner tips. Our room was spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished, and everything else we needed was an easy walk away. From booking through departure, everything went perfectly.
Our company booked rooms here, and the communication was very poor. We were told by message that breakfast wouldn’t be available because the hotel was booked for two weeks, though rooms were available. I called 30 minutes before arrival as requested. The woman said she wasn’t there and asked us to wait 45 minutes. On a second call, she said it would be another 30 minutes; eventually I was told she was stuck in traffic and would take even longer. She was very unpleasant, and we left when we arrived. I don’t recommend this place. 🤥🥴☹️☹️☹️☹️
We used the ground-floor room in the "Ironing Iron" building for a party, with the food catered, rather than staying overnight. The beautiful Art Nouveau room holds 25-30 people, which was perfect for us. Highly recommended!
I can’t speak to the hotel or its rooms, since we never got to stay there. The communication, though, was a nightmare. I asked through the contact form on August 18th for a double room for August 23rd to 24th, while looking for a place for a family celebration in Duisburg. The next day, someone whose email signature said manager replied that a room was available and asked me to call to book. On the phone, the person was initially confused and didn’t remember my inquiry or the email. After some back and forth, she confirmed the booking for €89, payable in cash, and told me to call on arrival in case reception wasn’t staffed. We arrived around 1:30 pm on August 23rd, with the door locked as instructed. Neither of my two calls to the number used for booking and shown on the doorbell was answered. I got a call back later, only to be told there was no booking and that booking by phone wasn’t possible. She denied that I’d booked by phone a few days earlier, and the call ended after “connection problems” when they hung up. I can’t tell if different people share the number without communicating, if someone has a terrible memory, or if it’s just chaos. Either way, this wasn’t reliable. Luckily, we found private accommodation, or we’d have had nowhere to stay.
