Hotel Maxim Dusseldorf City

The bathroom was small, but that wasn’t a major issue for me. For a budget stay, I found the price and quality well balanced: the room had basic equipment, was clean, and was in good condition. Breakfast had the usual things you’d want in the morning. I had a nice stay with my wife and 2 years old daughter, although I’m not sure this hotel is right for families with little children. I’d recommend it for a budget trip.

We only needed a place to sleep while we were out enjoying the Christmas markets, and for that this was fine. It cost much less than many other hotels, so you get what you pay for. I’ve definitely stayed in worse. The hotel is a bit dated, and the walls and doors are thin enough that you hear the old lift and other guests. There were a few minor issues with things in the room, too. Loud neighbours would be a problem because you can hear them.

The replacement hotel was great and had a better view, though it was much further from the main station. The change itself was a hassle, and I ended up paying an extra €8 for the taxi, which left a really bad taste. I’d booked 4 nights as part of a solo trip leading up to Christmas. At first everything went smoothly, and the rooms were quite clean. But after I came back on the second night, I was told I’d have to move to another hotel by the next morning because of renovations over Christmas. I agreed because there wasn’t much else I could do. The new place was a 20-30 minutes walk away, and I had a lot of baggage, so I later asked if they could cover a taxi. The receptionist pointed at her phone and said she’d help me call one. I checked out at 9:30am the next morning and took a taxi, but the driver made me pay the fare of €8.

The view of the park place in front of the hotel was nice, and the area itself is quite pleasant. But the hotel didn’t really live up to the expectations I got from the pictures before arriving. The room was clean but very small, the WiFi didn’t work at all, and breakfast was just OK.
