The hotel looks beautiful and is in a great area, but the service was terrible, the staff unpleasant, and the rooms not worth the money. We paid £271 for one night. I wouldn’t recommend coming here. Check-in was slow because the person seemed to be training, and it took a good ten minutes just to get through the basics. The room wasn’t much better: it was pretty unclean, and there was a half-used toilet roll. We tried the bar, which wasn’t busy, but waited 22 minutes to be served. Then the drinks were wrong, and we waited more than 50 minutes for water before realizing he’d forgotten it. We cancelled, paid, and went upstairs. Room service was another mess. We called at 9.45 and were told the kitchen was closed, even though the menu said food could be delivered to the room until 10pm. The person was rude but eventually agreed to make something simple. An hour later there was still no food, so I went to reception. They said they’d called to tell me they couldn’t make anything, but the phone in the room was broken and we never got the call. They could have knocked, but didn’t. They claim to offer 24 hour service and a limited menu after 10pm, but neither the menu nor website description matched what was available. I tried to order something even simpler, but that wasn’t possible either.

The room went uncleaned throughout our short weekend, even after reception said they’d contact housekeeping. We also asked for clean towels, but none arrived. The location is good, but for the price I’d choose somewhere else, since the service felt more like a three-star hotel. I have photos of the dust and the room’s condition, but I’ll spare you. At check-in, we were given our room number coldly, with no directions or information about the restaurants and bars. I had to ask before anyone explained how to find the room. Inside, it was sauna-hot and there was no duvet or blanket. Reception didn’t answer the phone, so I went downstairs and found staff chatting while it rang. They said they couldn’t do anything about the heat and told us to open a window. When I asked for a duvet, they said none were available. I asked if this was really a five-star hotel, and was told “not really,” probably four-star. I’m genuinely surprised this Wellem Hotel, a Hyatt property, is part of the Hyatt group. How it meets their standards is a mystery to me. This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. I strongly advise against booking it.

The staircase is a real highlight, and the lounge has live piano in the afternoon. There’s also a nice bar downstairs. The restaurant deserves plenty of praise too, as it made a unique menu for a special request. It’s a beautiful, palace-like hotel in a great, easy-to-reach location. Quiet and spacious, it works well for a business trip, a special event, or just an overnight stay. The service was friendly and professional.

For a small family wanting a luxury place right in central Düsseldorf, this is hard to beat. The rooms are spacious and the service is fantastic. Honestly, it’s the best place to stay in the city.
