The evening was oddly amusing, though I wouldn’t call it an enjoyable restaurant experience. Watching two staff members guide an EasyServe serving robot between tables, apparently to keep it out of trouble, was the high point of a very strange dinner. A machine meant to reduce the workload needed several people watching over it. It felt like a neat little picture of process taking over from purpose. I left more reflective than angry or impressed, and mostly amused by the absurdity of it all. We arrived at 18:35 for an 18:30 reservation. The table wasn’t ready, which was no big deal, and a friendly waiter professionally asked us to wait a few minutes. Before that, though, we’d run into another staff member who seemed overwhelmed, unfamiliar with the reservation system, and unsure how to speak with guests. It didn’t come across as rudeness so much as a system under more strain than it could handle. Even though we’d arrived on time, it was around 19:00 before we got drinks. One waiter was genuinely excellent, friendly, sharp, funny, and professional, and ordering with him was a pleasure. But one capable person can’t make up indefinitely for too few staff and poor organisation. The service left the feeling that optimisation mattered more than hospitality, with efficiency targets, temporary staff, and cost control taking priority over pride or the guest experience. The atmosphere seemed to say that margins came before people. The food was just about acceptable. The vegetables were better prepared than the steak, which was remarkably tough, like chewing an old leather belt. Steak dinner shouldn’t turn into cardio. The whole setup made me think about Germany and the way capable people can get stuck in rigid systems. I found myself wondering whether overregulation and parts of German union culture might be one visible consequence for an economy that seems to be losing some dynamism. The aims of these arrangements may once have been good, protecting workers, setting standards, and creating stability. But at some point, carrying out the basic work seems to have become harder and slower than managing the procedures. Everything gets organised, supervised, discussed, regulated, and negotiated. Trying to make work more efficient can produce inefficiency, and trying to protect everything can leave the system almost paralysed. If you enjoy dry European absurdity, waiting ages for drinks, working your way through tough steak, and watching a carefully supervised robot can feel more like social commentary than hospitality.

The area around the park is lovely, with plenty to explore for a week away. Our renovated cottage was spacious and comfortable, though the furnishings still felt fairly basic. The park itself is compact, so there isn’t much privacy. We chose it for New Year’s Eve because our dog is terrified of fireworks and the park was advertised as a fireworks-free zone. Unfortunately, fireworks were set off after all. If avoiding them is the main reason for your trip, I’d look elsewhere.

The room was dirty. Staff said they were open until 8 pm, but by 6 pm there was nobody there. We’ve been left without food.

We stayed with six adults and five kids in house 341, a big, very comfortable place beside the golf course. The view was lovely, and I’d recommend that house. The other houses have tiny gardens, with chairs right beside the road. So the house itself was fine. Everything else was let down by terrible service. The waiters were arrogant and seemed unwilling to work. There were ten people on the terrace and four waiters, including bartenders, inside, yet we waited at least 45 minutes for wine or beer. Cocktails? Good luck. When I asked for a particular beer, the waiter said they only had Weissener. I said I didn’t like it and asked what else they had. He said, “Well, you can drink water?” and laughed. The kids’ club tries, but there’s no atmosphere and the place feels kind of dead. Maybe that’s because everything is brand new and feels sterile. All the fun activities for kids cost extra, so good luck if you have more than two. The outdoor playground has regular construction sand underneath it, and after 30 minutes of playing, the kids were covered in dust and hard to recognize.

The reception and adjoining restaurant are new and modern looking. We bought rolls at the supermarket once, but thought they were quite expensive, especially since they’re behind a glass counter and similar to Lidl-style rolls. Our restyled cottage was cozy and generally clean, with good mattresses and a well-equipped kitchen. The pillows could have been firmer. The one real downside was how damp it felt inside, with silverfish all over the place. We think poor ventilation is the reason. It was also incredibly warm during our stay at the end of December. The dampness combined with heating that warmed the cottage quickly made it uncomfortable, and even setting the thermostat to 15 degrees didn’t make it feel cooler.
