Pension Metilstein

Really happy with this charming little place.

That little drinks fridge tucked behind the stairs was much appreciated after a hike. We tried the dark beer "Schwarzer Esel" (Black Donkey), and it was delicious. Breakfast starts at 8:00 a.m.; the buffet at the front was generous, with the tables set and even a candle lit. We felt comfortable there and slept really well. We usually head to Thuringia every September for the scenery, and this year we added an overnight stay in Eisenach. I found this guesthouse online in March while looking for a place with breakfast, booked Tuesday, September 9th through Friday, September 12th, 2025, and got confirmation right away. We then had some wonderful days in Eisenach 👍. The room was bright and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Mr. Zedel was friendly too, though I only spoke with him on the phone. The location worked well for us: Rewe is just down the street to the left, along with the town center. Stairs behind the guesthouse lead up to a hiking path for the Metilstein rock formation or Wartburg Castle. Whether you come by car, motorcycle, on foot, or by train, guests are warmly welcomed at Pension Metilstein. Small but perfectly formed 😊

For a night or two around a concert or another cultural event, this is a handy choice. It's quiet but still central, the breakfast is very good, and the staff are attentive and friendly. The rooms do let you hear quite a lot from elsewhere.
