Pension Eltmann

The room was okay, but I’m really angry about the owner. I gave her 50€ as a key deposit in the evening, and in the morning she gave me back only 40€, keeping 10€. She was very rude and unfriendly. This was the worst pension I’ve ever seen, and I’m sure I won’t stay here again. If you need a pension, try to find another one.

The room was clean, but very basic, with furniture that felt like it was from the 70s. We’d booked a double room with an en-suite bathroom and a double bed through Booking.com, but got two beds against different walls that couldn’t be moved together because there wasn’t enough space. The bathroom and toilet were in the hallway, and there wasn’t even a sink in the room. There was an old bathrobe hanging on a hook, probably left by the previous guest. The path up to the guesthouse was extremely steep, and wouldn’t suit wheelchair users or anyone with difficulty walking. Parking was another hassle. We weren’t allowed to use the large courtyard and were told to park somewhere in town. Later, we were offered overnight parking in front of the double garage for 10€. The next morning we asked if we could leave the car there until 9:15 or 9:30, but were told very firmly that it had to be moved by 9:00. We rang the bell to check out at 7:05. The lady came downstairs in her nightgown, seeming angry, and got even angrier when we asked about coffee. She said they didn’t have any. When I asked for a receipt for the 10€ parking fee, she raised her voice. I wondered whether that extra fee was taxed. There were so many questions about why she acted that way. The greeting the day before had been curt, if it could even be called a greeting. Right after saying “Good day,” she demanded a 50€ key deposit, and we’d already found her unfriendly. Check-out was listed as between 7:00 and 9:00. I won’t book this guesthouse again. I should have paid the extra 40€ for a hotel, where two people would have had breakfast and, probably, friendlier staff.

We were six people and ended up having to find somewhere else to stay at 8 pm because we arrived too late. Check-in was only possible from 5-6 pm, as stated, and the staff were very unfriendly, hanging up during conversations. We couldn’t get a free cancellation or a refund, and this lady certainly knows how to get her money. We never received an invoice or receipt afterward, just the payment slip from Booking.com. This place doesn’t even deserve one star.
