My room was quiet and comfortable, even with a connecting door next door, and the finishes were to a high standard. I was there for two midweek nights in January. It’s a great base for Therme Erding, though getting to Munich is less convenient: the train from nearby Altenerding station takes an hour. A couple of things to know: there’s no kettle in the room, and I’m not sure whether reception can provide one. There are no USB charging sockets either, so bring a mains charger. My single room with breakfast and Therme Erding admission was €288 a night, with another €15 for the vital and sauna area. I skipped the restaurant because it looked pricey and closes fairly early. Book ahead for a table, and note that last orders are at 21:00. The adjacent Ruffs Burger takes walk-ins and stays open until 21:30. A burger, fries, and drink will set you back about €25. Despite the cost and the less convenient Munich connection, Hotel Victory made for a real treat and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Highly recommended.

Most of the waitresses didn’t speak English, apart from the reception staff, which was disappointing at an international spa. A few seemed annoyed that we couldn’t speak German, and that made us uncomfortable. On Sunday, checkout was 11:00 am, but at 10:00 a cleaner knocked and came in without waiting for us to answer. She looked irritated that we were still there and kept speaking German after I said I didn’t understand. I found that rude. The room itself was enjoyable, but I don’t think the stay justified the price. We paid €977 for a double room and two days of spa access, from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Areas including the oasis weren’t included, and we were charged €230 more at the end. After taking off €90 for two dinners, that meant €140 extra just to use other spa areas, which felt excessive and unfair. I also found the celebration package disappointing. We’d requested an extra birthday package, but its decorations were put on our young children’s bed, even though it was my birthday. Two years ago, the package included cake and prosecco; this time those were provided only after we asked, and it didn’t feel personal or special. It seemed no one checked who the celebration was for. The room facing the club had a window that wouldn’t open, so it felt hot and stuffy. Alexa devices were no longer there, and the TV seemed dated, with few channels and occasional signal problems. We do enjoy staying here and hope the hotel can improve these things, as we’d like to return.

Therme Erding was so crowded on the 25th that I regretted coming. The day before, we arrived on the 24th and learned the spa would close at 2 pm. I understand closing early for the staff, but wish we’d known before booking. We paid extra for the Christmas special, yet it didn’t feel special: there were very few arts and crafts for the kids, and no Santa even though we expected him. The violinist played a German version of the Nutcracker. To be fair, she was talented and kind to the children. We paid so much for the 24th and got a nice dinner and a violinist; the dinner was very good and the wait staff superb, but that was about it. Breakfast was decent, nothing amazing, and the burgers were expensive. They also charged extra to put a baby crib in the room, which I’ve never encountered at a hotel. I wouldn’t recommend this, especially to international tourists during the holidays.

The team could have made the birthday package feel much more personal. We requested one, but the decorations ended up on our young children’s bed, even though it was my birthday. Two years ago it came with cake and prosecco; this time those were only provided after we asked, and it didn’t feel special. It seemed no one checked who the celebration was for. Our room facing the club was also warm and stuffy because the window wouldn’t open. The Alexa devices were gone, and the TV felt outdated, with limited channels and occasional signal issues. Still, we had a pleasant stay. Staff were consistently kind, welcoming, and attentive, the hotel was very clean, and breakfast was fresh, well organized, and enjoyable each morning. I hope this feedback helps, because we really enjoy staying here and would love to come back.

After walking some of Europe’s Caminos and pilgrimage paths, I’ve made Hotel Victory my home for three days each time. This is my seventh stay. I usually book a Yacht Cabine room, which is sleek, spotless, and has everything I need. The wellness and sauna areas at Therme are easy to get to, and the aufguss experience is among the finest anywhere. And the Empire Restaurant is superb, world-class in every way, and in my opinion deserves a Michelin rating.
