Trip Inn Boutique Rubens Hotel

We chose this well-decorated, comfortable hotel for a trade show because it was close to Messe Essen. Breakfast wasn’t anything special, but it was ready on time, and the staff agreed to serve it 30 minutes earlier than usual during our stay. They were punctual. We arrived on Sunday, when there were no staff on site, which was very disappointing. They knew we’d be arriving that day but hadn’t contacted us to arrange a time or sort out access. The receptionist gave us a door code over the phone, but there were no keys inside, so we had to leave our luggage and go build our booth. At the beginning of September the rooms were incredibly warm, and my team struggled to sleep. We won’t be back because the heat made it impossible to get a full night’s sleep.

We arrived around midnight to find our room locked because the key card had been disabled. There was no emergency number anywhere in the hotel. After emailing, the owner called at 2 midnight, but we’d already had to move to a different hotel. We never got a refund for the unused room or night. If you’re after the Fawlty Tower experience, this is the perfect hotel. Keep looking for somewhere more decent.

A good-value boutique hotel, with clean rooms and useful facilities, including a small kitchen area. The only problem was that the lift wasn’t working.

Great service, a great hotel, and the best experience. Totally recommended.
