We made the hour-long trip for dinner, and it was absolutely worth it. The food was excellent, with everyone working with care, humor, intelligence, and sincerity to serve high-quality dishes. The setting is traditional and simple, and the team gave us a warm welcome. A memorable evening with friends and a real highlight of our visit to a region that has something different to offer.

The menu has plenty of variety and choices for different conditions, and the food is full of ideas, inventive flavors, and delicious combinations without ever feeling overwhelming. Mr. Schreiber plays with textures and unexpected turns in taste while keeping things clear for diners. This was my third visit to Restaurant Goldener Hahn, and it was still stunning. Mrs. Schreiber and her staff are witty, sweet, friendly, and lovable, and the service is immaculate, especially for Brandenburg. We’ve stayed elsewhere in the area each time, but the journey of over an hour has always been worth it. In my opinion, Goldener Hahn unquestionably deserves the label “worth a detour.” I recommend it wholeheartedly, however far off the beaten track it may seem.

The calm atmosphere and pleasant service were a nice surprise on such a busy evening, when they were almost fully booked. We had a delicious four-course New Year’s Eve menu, and the wine list includes interesting German regions as well as the usual Mediterranean ones. It’s a hidden restaurant in a remote little spot, but well worth the drive. One suggestion: staff serving at the tables should know the names and producers of all the ingredients in each dish, since guests at other fine dining places often ask about them.
