City Hotel West

My sheets were absolutely disgusting. I asked for a replacement, and the new ones were even worse. I wouldn't trust any rating above 1 out of 5 for this hotel.

As a woman travelling alone, I felt unsafe the whole time and wouldn't come back. I wouldn't pay more than 10€ to stay here again. There was shouting outside at all hours, and I heard several fights in just one night. A tapping or knocking sound went on for more than 20 minutes in the night, as if someone was making it on purpose. The room also smelled overwhelmingly of cigarette smoke, as though someone had just smoked a whole pack, and it set off my asthma badly enough that I was wheezing. The shower was badly broken: the protective coil on the detachable head was missing, leaving a big gap in the hose. When I turned it on, water sprayed me in the face and came out of the hole under such pressure that none reached the shower head. The elevator was very slow, too. The location does have one big convenience, it's a four-minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof, which helps a lot with luggage. But the street is in a particular kind of provocative district, with certain kinds of inns directly opposite and other adult venues next door. The staff member checking me in knew I spoke English but answered only in German. I speak German, but guests who don't may want to take that into account. I could only give it two stars for the location.

The smell was disgusting, with cigarette smoke throughout the room and hotel, and everything looked dirty. The towels were wet when we arrived, and the sheets were dirty too. When we asked for fresh ones, we were told they were fine. The neighborhood felt scary. I don't recommend it at all.

The two men at the front desk were the only saving grace. The street felt shady, and the photos online didn't look like the real place. This isn't suitable for children. As soon as I entered the room, the cigarette smell hit me. The beds were awful and uneven, so I couldn't sleep all night, and I doubt the actual cushions had been changed in years. I would never visit again.
