Höchster Hof Apartments

Höchst is a beautiful little town, with shops and restaurants on your doorstep and scenic walks along the River Main. Frankfurt is only about 20 minutes away. I’ve been staying here for the past seven months, which probably says enough. The rooms are very basic, but the staff are friendly, accommodating, and happy to work with you on what you need. It’s definitely no Savoy, but the value for money is unbeatable. I’ll book a long stay for the new year when I return after Christmas.

The rooms are extremely basic, and the corridors look like a jail. There was no AC or toiletries, though the room was clean and did the job if you don’t plan to spend time there. You also have to pay for water. Breakfast could use improvement. Even a toaster would help with the dry, stodgy bread, though at least they had baked beans. The front desk staff were nice enough, but Lufthansa sent a lot of people there because of delayed flights, so check-in took ages.

The location is great, the river view is beautiful, and the room price was good, but it was still a very disappointing stay. This may once have been a beautiful hotel, but time and lack of attention have taken their toll. The place is poorly maintained and dirty. The room had loose or detached fittings on all the doors and windows. The window wood was rotting and had lost all its paint. The sink was dirty and full of hair, the toilet was dirty, and the bathroom walls had grime on them. The showerhead was clogged with solids and sprayed everywhere except on me. The shower panels were loose, and the door had to be closed carefully so it wouldn’t fall out. The toilet flush mechanism came out of the wall and had to be pushed back in to work. The staircases never seemed to get cleaned. During all three days of my stay, I saw the same coffee stains and paper rubbish on the stairs. Other guests were noisy late into the night, and cigarette smoke was everywhere, both inside and around the hotel.

The man at check-in was nice, but the next morning the woman seemed bored and sleepy. She said we could go to breakfast, but then a really rude man sent us back to pay first for no good reason. The receptionist did nothing, so we left without eating and won’t return. Very basic hotel. Find somewhere else to stay.
