Steigenberger Airport Hotel Frankfurt

The porter from the Caribbean was great, really friendly and helpful. He deserves recognition. The rest of our two-night stay in the executive suite was disappointing. The hotel felt very dated, more like a 3-star property. The room was large but unwelcoming, with too little light. Every 10 minutes or so, day and night, there was a loud hum and low vibration from outside for 10-15 seconds. We couldn’t figure out where it came from, and it was annoying even with the windows shut. At first we thought it was a loud car. The minibar fridge barely worked. When we told reception, we were told it was old and nothing could be done. No portable or replacement fridge was offered. The only suggestion was to change rooms, with no guarantee the next fridge would be cold either. At the buffet restaurant, my husband leaned back and hit the back of his head on the sharp corner of a shelf, causing a lot of pain and swelling. Reception was told, but there was no apology or offer of ice or care, just “I will let the dining team know.” After dinner, neither key would open our room. The phone on the floor didn’t work, so we went downstairs twice to have the cards recalibrated. On the second trip, we were told there was no record of anyone staying in our room. This was our second night there.

A canceled flight left me needing a hotel for one night, and I expected very little. The staff were efficient, the room immaculate, and the food was great. There’s also a bus to and from the airport every 20 minutes, and the ride takes about five minutes. I loved every minute of the short stay.

Weather canceled our flight out of FRA, and the Steigenberger quickly took in everyone from our flight. They gave us a hot dinner, an early breakfast, and a free shuttle. The staff handled a lot of stressed passengers with real care. The rooms were modern and clean. Excellent quality.

Condor put us up here after our flight was canceled. The bar downstairs is pretty good, and the sauna is nice, though quite utilitarian. Our room was comfortable and quiet, if a little dated, and the shower had good water pressure. The airport shuttle runs every 20 minutes and takes 5-10 minutes each way. The lunch provided for Condor passengers was quite poor, for example, frozen steamed vegetables had gone soggy and cold after sitting out for hours. That may not reflect the hotel’s food in general.
