We found the apartment comfortable and clean. Karlsbau public parking house is close by and worked well for us. We'll be back!

It's in a great spot, and it was nice and clean.

The location was excellent, but the rest wasn't. It wasn't clean, with hair on the carpet, dirty sheets, and other issues, and the shower had no pressure. We were promised a refund, but still haven't heard back. At this price, I wouldn't recommend it.

We stayed in Apartment 2 from January 3rd to 5th, 2023, after booking through Booking.com for €199. We were two adults and a baby. The apartment is very spacious and centrally located, though €199 for two nights felt a little steep. We had hoped to move our booking to a later date, but that would have cost €399 for two nights, which was too much for us. The building is extremely noisy. We could hear every word from neighboring apartments. On the phone, customer service was friendly, but I got the sense there was a commercial motive behind the conversation. As these companies grow, it can feel like guests matter less and profit matters more. A small place, like the kind we sometimes rent out ourselves, can't afford to treat people that way. We nearly had to cancel because my wife became ill, but in the end we made the trip. Parking was easy, and we retrieved the key from the key safe without trouble. The cleaning was poor. In some spots it was extremely superficial, the cutlery in the drawer was dirty, and several corners looked unpleasant, as the photos show. The marks on the sink and tiles seemed to come from inadequate cleaning. The towels were already faded and below the standard of places we've booked before. There were also two air purifiers or similar devices lying around, along with a vacuum cleaner. Some of this had apparently been mentioned in other reviews and still hadn't been fixed. I contacted customer service to ask what could be done. They offered another cleaning, but I turned it down. The photos show that the dirt could easily have been wiped away, and with a baby along we didn't want to leave the apartment at short notice for a cleaning crew. For a stay of just two nights, that didn't seem worthwhile anyway. They also offered free cancellation if we left immediately, so they could rent the apartment out again, as customer service put it. Traveling with a child, you can't just pack up and go without thinking it through. We had plans and appointments in Freiburg, and suspected there might not be enough time to clean and re-let the place. So we declined that option too. The reason I'm writing this review is what happened when I asked about a price reduction. They said they'd look into it, but only if I didn't leave a negative review, or better, didn't leave one at all. We arrived to an uncleaned apartment and were eventually offered a 10% refund. I don't consider that fair. Everyone can decide for themselves whether "We'll refund the full amount if you leave, plus 10%..." sounds reasonable. For the condition we found, €20 less wasn't enough. I expected more fairness, and was told I should leave a "fair" review. When I raised this, they said they didn't want to be blackmailed. Yet they had asked me not to leave a review, which is a contradiction. You can't rent out an apartment in that condition and then blame the tenant. It's unfair to other guests too. If positive reviews are "bought", as we've seen on online marketplaces, that doesn't seem right. A €20 refund feels unreasonable to me. I'd be willing to improve my review if they made a reasonable counter-offer. It's up to each person whether to book at that price. The high cost is perhaps explained by how close it is to the city center. Still, we were told we'd get the full amount back if we left, plus 10% if we stayed. Readers can judge for themselves whether that's fair.
