Ferienhof Walter

We went with friends to watch an open movie. The atmosphere was nice, the prices fair, and the taste was good. The sound system wasn’t surround, and the music in the movie was louder than the dialogue.

We stayed in one of the apartments at Ferienhif Walter and would love to return for a few more days. It was spacious, comfortable, warm, and very well equipped, with lovely views over the wineyard. The staff were warm and very nice, and breakfast was decent. There wasn’t a huge range of choices, but given the hotel’s size, that makes sense and avoids wasting food. It’s a very good-value place for a short getaway, conveniently located 15-20 minutes by car from central Freiburg. We’d happily recommend it.

The houses were exceptionally clean and much better maintained than places I’ve seen in the States. This is a guest house made up of two small apartment buildings with rooms to rent for short stays, rather than a typical hotel. It’s a little off the beaten path, close to Freiburg but still somewhat secluded, and they don’t advertise on the major hotel sites. The hosts are a wonderful family who own the farm, vineyards, guest house, country store, and cafe. We needed a crib for our 10 months old daughter, which is a bit of an unusual request, but Frau Martina and her husband accommodated us. I can’t praise the place enough, though some of the requirements may feel unusual to visitors from the States.

The Walter family made our holiday easy from the start. They were so welcoming and friendly, and we loved our stay in their spacious, clean, comfortable apartment with a great view of the vineyards and Freiburg. Breakfast was hearty, and we enjoyed Walter wine, with juice for the kids too. It’s a handy base for walks to Opfingen and exploring the beautiful Black Forest. We’re a British family with kids, and everyone in the area felt friendly and laid back. It isn’t a very common destination for UK families, but it was easy to enjoy and get around, though knowing a bit of German helped. We recommend Aquafun in Schluchsee and the Treetop trail in Waldkirch. We can’t wait to go back one day.
