Green City Hotel Vauban

The tram stop is right outside the entrance, and tram 3 goes straight to the city centre, so the location is very convenient. I stayed four nights at the beginning of August. My room was bright, airy, and clean, and stayed comfortably cool even when it was unbearably hot outside, over 31 degrees. Reception staff were friendly and greeted me whenever I came or went. I only tried the breakfast buffet once because it was so expensive. At 18 Euros per person per day, I expected something exceptional. It was very good, but there was no fruit salad and only one vegan yogurt option, so I ate breakfast elsewhere after that.

A beautiful spot in a really nice neighborhood, with great transit. It’s comfortable and relaxed, and the room was good overall. The main problem was that it felt stuffy, even though the passive house system circulates air every 2 hours. Opening the window fixed it immediately. I suspect the CO2 level was too high, so perhaps the air circulation wasn’t enough.

The tram stop to the city centre is right at the front door, so getting there is easy even though the hotel is outside the center. Shops, cafes, and restaurants are nearby as well. I had a great stay: the building is bright, the rooms were very clean, and the staff were really helpful.

The hotel made our Freiburg visit especially enjoyable. It’s modern, exceptionally clean, and well appointed, with comfortable beds and sheets, a spotless bathroom, and natural wood throughout. The triple insulated windows and heavy doors made the soundproofing impressive. Even with the heat outside, the climate control kept us comfortable overnight. We also appreciated the hotel’s focus on being environmentally friendly and inclusive. I wish more hotels took that approach. We chose the hotel as a base for exploring Freiburg, and the location worked perfectly. The tram goes from the front door and takes less than 15 minutes to downtown. There are great hikes nearby, including Jesuit Schloss for city views, wine tasting close by, and the Vauban district to explore. That’s a must. Breakfast was fantastic, with fresh, healthy choices and classic brötchen. From reception to the breakfast team, the staff made us feel welcome and took great care of us.
