Hotel Schwarzwälder Hof

My dad stayed here in the late 60s, so I really wanted to stay here too after he recently passed away. Booking.com showed no availability even though I tried five months ahead, but the hotel managed to find me a room. The staff were very friendly and always helpful with information. My room was comfortable, breakfast was great, and the location was fantastic. The fact that the hotel has been in business for 60 years says a lot. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. For dinner, I’d also highly recommend Zum Schwabentörle, just a one-minute walk away. The service was excellent, and the food was tasty, with a huge plate for a very reasonable price. You won’t find better.

The guest rooms are tight and very modern, while the building and restaurant feel cozy and classic. There’s a pleasant lounge where you can sit and read or socialize. Our bathroom’s shower stall was extremely small and only had a hand-held spray wand. The location is great, near the cathedral and tram line. Breakfast in the elegant restaurant was very nice, and reception staff were helpful.

The shower had excellent water pressure, and the cleaning lady was friendly about arranging a time with us to clean the room. We’d arrived early and were allowed into our room already. The hotel is well placed, close to a large parking garage and Freiburg’s shopping district. Breakfast was good, especially the outstanding fresh fruit salad. After we got home, the hotel emailed us because we’d left a dress shirt in the room, and kindly mailed it to us that same day. A very pleasant stay, highly recommended for anyone visiting Freiburg.

We stayed one night in July 2013. Our room was in the annex around the corner, decorated in a clean, modern style, with plenty of space and a small balcony. We liked the design. Breakfast was good in the main hotel building, and the location in the pedestrian-only part of town was great. Good value, too.
