Hotel Lauterbad

The room was too hot, even though it was only in the low 20C range, and there’s no airco. The gym was okay but had only three pairs of free weights. The spa and sauna might be nice, but the restrictive opening hours meant I didn’t make it. The food was tasty and the restaurant staff friendly, though I’d skip the menu next time and order a la carte. I arrived without a booking after seeing availability in the Booking.com app. When possible, I prefer to book directly to support the hotel instead of the “middle man”. At check in they wanted to charge me €35 more than the Booking price, saying “I must’ve seen a different hotel”. I hadn’t, but I was too tired to argue over the extra charge. That left a sour taste. The hotel is fine, but honestly only worth the price I’d seen advertised, not more. The staff and policies felt rigid, which holds the hotel and restaurant back.

Surrounded by forest, the views here are stunning. It’s a really nice, elegant hotel in Lauterbad, with clean, pretty rooms and everything you need on site. The wellness facilities are incredible, including relaxation rooms, saunas, indoor and outdoor pools, and massage services. A perfect holiday away from the city. I recommend it with all my heart.

Breakfast was outstanding, even compared with other German hotels I’ve stayed in. The setting right in the Black Forest is lovely, and the staff are friendly and speak English. The WiFi is poor at best, which is the one thing keeping this from five stars. It didn’t work in my room, and even in the lobby I couldn’t keep a connection.

We had a great stay at Hotel Lauterbad. The accommodation was good and the facilities were great. The staff were attentive and always smiling. Thanks very much, we’ll come back!
