Hotel Restaurant Hillmers Hoff

Breakfast itself was perfect, though it wasn’t served before 8 am. We had a long stage planned for the next day and would have liked to set off earlier. Our room was alright, with nothing to complain about. We stayed one night at Hillmers Hoff while walking the Heidschnuckenweg, which runs right next to the guesthouse. One thing to know: Monday is their closing day, so the restaurant is shut. The host mentioned a local pizza delivery service, but orders to Wesel have a €20 minimum.

It’s peaceful and safe, with mostly farmhouses in the neighborhood. The Heide shuttle stops right at the door, and there are lots of trekking paths nearby. The rooms are clean and modern. I’d recommend it.

The surroundings are beautiful and it’s a nice place, but there was no staff when we arrived or when we left. I was misinformed about the dog charge. When I left the money I thought I owed, plus a little extra, by the room key, the hotel said it wasn’t there and demanded double the amount. We had two dogs, but from the conversation I’d understood the price was for having dogs. They don’t take international cards. We ended up paying 30 euros for the dogs for one night. They say the money disappeared, but since nobody was there to collect it, that’s not surprising.

We had a very nice stay and the host was friendly. The breakfast was a great way to start the day. It was a little expensive, 99€ for one night in early August, but this was pretty much the only place we could find to stay in the area.
