The lake is lovely, but the view is from the busy public path outside the campsite, so there’s little privacy. The site itself is noisy, with traffic from the main road and town sounds carrying on late. Being in a swampy area also means biting bugs are around constantly. We paid over €50 a night for two adults, a motorhome and two small dogs, and it didn’t feel worth it. Electricity was €1 per kWh, and Wi-Fi was advertised but we weren’t given a password at check-in. There were no services at the pitch apart from the costly electricity. The pitches were small, uneven and worn, mostly grit, sand and weeds. The EHU looked modern, but you had to walk away from your pitch to use a coin meter. Hot showers took extra tokens, and reception was closed when we needed them. We got no welcome, site information or suggestions for things to do nearby. The gate was left wide open onto a busy public path, which made the site feel vulnerable to people walking through. Between that, the road noise and the dated payment systems, the premium price is hard to justify. It felt like a backpacker experience with poor basics.

The restaurant was open, though there wasn’t a bar, and there was a nice terrace to sit on. The toilets, showers and washing facilities were spotless, and I can’t fault the staff. Still, this wouldn’t make my favorites list. There’s no real lake view from the campsite unless you climb up and look over the big hedge, and one side of our pitch smelled strongly of urine. We had to stay inside the van with all the fly screens shut because of the mosquitoes. I know there’s not much the staff can do about those.

A great area to explore, but our spot was still wet when we arrived in June after the floods. We were covered in mosquitoes within minutes of stepping out of the van. That wasn’t really the campsite’s fault, so we moved the van up to the stellplatz, where thankfully there were no bugs.

The staff at reception were friendly and spoke excellent English, and the facilities were very clean. Our grassy pitch was a good size and well kept. The restaurant on site was very good, not cheap but fairly priced compared with places in town. My steak was superb. The campsite sits right by the lake, and it’s only a 12-minute walk into town. Swimming in the lake would be lovely in summer. There’s also an ‘aire’ style camping area in the car park at the front, which I think was €12 a night, handy if you only want to stay one night. Our motorhome cost €28 a night in late April, which is quite hefty, and then showers were another 50 cents. The showers were excellent, though, and the toilets had paper and soap, so we still give it five stars.

A good place to camp when visiting Friedrichshafen, with quality services. The city is about a 15-minute walk away. Just be ready for mosquitoes, though they’re all around the lake anyway.
