Bavaria City Hostel - Design Hostel Füssen

The room description was the biggest problem for us. We paid extra for an “ensuite” bathroom, but it was across the common hall and only had a shower, tub, and sink. We still had to use a separate shared toilet, so the upgrade felt misleading and not worth the added cost. We also booked because we needed laundry, but the facilities were under renovation with no warning. We had to use a more expensive laundromat instead. On arrival, sheets were folded on the mattress and we had to make our own bed, which felt like a basic service had been skipped. We never saw staff from arrival through checkout. Reception was open for only a short two-hour window in the morning, and when we came 15 minutes after it opened to check in, nobody was there. Shared facilities had a lot of restrictions: live water meters on the showers, kitchen power cut outside certain hours, and posted time limits for using the shared showers. People on our floor were partying loudly from about 11:30 pm to 1 am, waking us up, and with no staff around there was nothing we could do. The location is great for Neuschwanstein Castle, and the information they gave us about bus times and visiting the castle was helpful. But after a month backpacking around Europe, this was our least favorite accommodation. Know what you’re booking.

Dominic, the owner, made our stay really comfortable. Everything was clean, well cared for, and smelled fresh. We had an excellent time at Bavaria hostel and will definitely come back.

The location is great, and we’d stay here again if we came back to Fussen. Our Thursday night was quiet, though for a Friday or Saturday I’d avoid a street-facing room because a couple of nearby bars were very loud at 3 am. It’s a hostel rather than a hotel, with shared bathrooms and towels you need to ask for. The rooms are small, but we only used ours for sleeping. The bunk beds felt sturdy and safe, and the place was very clean. There’s a full kitchen upstairs. Laundry was fine, at 4 Euros for a 90-minute wash and 2 Euros for a 90-minute dryer, but it only takes 50-cent coins. The front desk can provide them if someone is there. Staff were helpful, though we only saw them in the morning for checkout and cleanup and in the afternoon for check-ins.

Really bad experience. The room layout felt cramped, there was no staff support, and the cleaner or caretaker pushed us to check out right at the strict time. The kitchen power gets switched off manually at exactly 9:30. Be alert before booking, because they charged what felt like unnecessary penalties.
