Hotel & Restaurant Ludwigs

That apple strudel with vanilla sauce at Restaurant Ludwigs was what got me to persuade my husband to come, after I’d read about the place on Google reviews and Yelp. We went inside on a warm day and were starving after visiting Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle. I’d never tried pork cordon bleu before, and it was the best I’ve had. My husband enjoyed his vegan ravioli too. The waiter, whose name we didn’t catch, seemed to manage the place. He checked on us and made us feel at ease, almost like guests in his home. We really appreciated that hospitality. The apfelstrudel mit Vanillesoße was fine, though it didn’t compare with Vienna’s. Our bill came to about €60, which seemed reasonable by German standards.

Our server was cheerful and funny, and lunch was a treat. The Wiener schnitzel came out crispy and nicely seasoned, and I loved the vanilla sauce with the apple strudel. We stopped in during a day trip and really enjoyed both.

The atmosphere was quiet, the beer cold, and the service excellent. We tried potato soup, chicken schnitzel, and meat loaf, which was more like ham than beef, but very good. Everything tasted great. 10/10, would recommend.

The location in Füssen is great and the staff were polite, but the meal left me wanting more of a traditional Bavarian feel. The schnitzel tasted okay, though it was rounded instead of the thin, pan-fried style I expected, and it didn’t come with proper Kartoffelsalat. The Schweinebraten was tender but seemed flat, without the rich flavor or crisp crust I’d hoped for. It felt a little aimed at tourists rather than locals. It’s not a bad place if you’re nearby, though I’d guess there are more authentic southern German options around.
