Hotel Am Hopfensee

We only stayed one night, and it was very convenient for getting to the castles early in the morning. They upgraded us to a suite, which was spacious and had a stunning lake view with the mountains behind it. There’s no AC, but they provided a fan. There’s no phone line to the front desk for service requests, though staff were attentive whenever we spoke to them directly. Some parking is available in front of the hotel. We had a great stay.

The staff, location, and breakfast were wonderful, and I’d come back. Just plan ahead if your schedule is tight. The pool and sauna only opened an hour before checkout, even though they close at 9, which was really disappointing since they were our main reason for choosing this hotel. Nearby restaurants also stay open later. You’ll want to book dinner ahead of time, too.

We had a wonderful four-course dinner, and every dish was delicious. Later, we relaxed by the fireplace in the cozy bar and had a great chat with the bartender and the hotel manager, who was especially kind. From the front desk service to the spa, massages, dinner, and drinks, everything was lovely. All the staff were helpful and kind to us Americans. The spa was incredible, with unbeatable views from the infinity pool and sauna. The hotel is well placed for the views and close to Nuescbhwanstein Castle. I’d absolutely recommend it for a relaxing holiday.

The food was a real highlight. We had five and four-course meals, and the pictures tell the story. We both enjoyed them a lot. Breakfast was good, and the service was really nice. The bar had good drinks, and they even brought me a nice gin recommendation. Our standard double room was lovely, though there might be a few little things to improve. The spa was fine, but the 90-100° saunas felt much hotter than ones we’ve tried elsewhere. The view over the sea and mountains was beautiful, including from the infinity pool. The indoor places to relax were hard to get hold of, and we didn’t check out the Haman.
