Landhaus Berger

The check-in cutoff before 5 pm could be a problem. The owner said he doesn't use a key safe, but if you're delayed, for example in a traffic jam, you can call him to arrange something. I haven't needed to do that, but asked because we want to visit again. It's a beautiful spot with a lovely lake view, and breakfast is very complete, especially considering how few rooms there are.

We had planned to arrive well ahead of time, but a car rental problem meant we got our car two hours late. Check-in was then going to be around 5:20 pm. The Booking description said check-in was “GENERALLY” not accepted after 17:00, but the owner still refused us, even after we explained the situation. He wouldn't let us collect the key elsewhere either. We weren't helped at all and were charged the full amount without a refund. I don't recommend booking here.

Think twice before booking if you might arrive after 6 pm. We had arranged late check-in in advance for our last-minute booking, and the owner accepted the reservation. But when we called to confirm, he said he had already gone home and check-in wasn't possible. He wouldn't come back to let us in, and refused to refund our 150 EUR. His manner on the phone was very aggressive. I can't comment on the hotel's quality because nobody was available to check us in. Even with prior arrangements, a delayed flight or arrival after 6 pm could leave you unable to get inside.

The nearby restaurants are great. This is lovely Swiss-style chalet accommodation, with well-appointed rooms and a view of the lake. Just be aware it's not within walking distance of Fussen.
