Hotel Gasthaus Hirschen

The food is still really tasty, with good southern German dishes made from regional ingredients. The waiters were all very friendly, attentive, and well trained. It’s a cozy, traditionally rustic restaurant, and the Swabian cooking is excellent quality. It isn’t cheap, though.

The atmosphere and setting are great, especially outside in summer when it’s cozy to sit and relax. I’ve been more than once, and it’s definitely one of the best spots in Horn and the surrounding area. The hotel is lovely and so is the staff. It’s a big place, and I wonder if that affects the kitchen. The food is solid, but no more than that. My salad was drenched in sauce, which may be a matter of taste, but it wasn’t for me. The fish was meant to come with brown butter, yet there wasn’t any in sight. They might do better with fewer menu choices and a focus on what they do best, though some places in Germany still seem to think bigger menus are better. It’s a shame, because the place could be much better, but I guess the location makes all the difference. It’s very much a see-and-be-seen kind of place.

The service was quick and friendly, and the local dishes were high quality. We went for dinner, and it gets packed, so book a table ahead.

The owner even came by to ask if everything was okay, and the waiters were so friendly. The food was delicious, too. We’ll definitely return and try the beer garden.
