We booked two rooms and, unexpectedly, each came with an extra bed. They also left notepads and a pencil or pen, and even gave us complimentary water. There’s a nearby gas station and chargers for electric cars. I’d give the place 4.8 stars and recommend it. The reason I’m giving it four stars is that the room smelled of smoke when we entered, like someone had been smoking.

The hotel has a nice breakfast area where you can also have coffee or a drink. The room was clean and pleasant, and the location is central, with lots of places to get food and drinks nearby. If I’m in Geldern again, I’ll definitely stay here.

The beds were dreadful, and the mattresses were only 1.9 m long. At 1.98 m tall, I had to choose between twisting my neck against the solid wood headboard or sleeping with my ankles and feet hanging in the air. In the end, I was so desperate that I made a bed on the floor. If a hotel’s beds don’t work for even slightly tall people, it should give them a heads-up before booking. The breakfast buffet was mediocre, and there were no non-German TV channels. The hotel is otherwise decent, but the beds are why I gave it such a low score. Edit: I can’t reply to the owner’s message, so I’m adding this here. I’m 1.98 m tall, and my wife helped me check that I was at least 5 cm taller than the mattress before I posted. Unless you’re suggesting I had another growth spurt at age 37, it seems very unlikely that the owner’s reply was truthful. I’m leaving the review and low score up.

I was in Geldern for a wedding and loved this hotel. The atmosphere is wonderful and peaceful, and the staff are very friendly. I’d recommend it if you’re in the area. #dishtapproved
