I picked this place because it had the lowest prices in the area, and I wasn’t disappointed. My room was clean and tidy, reception was helpful and very nice, and it’s close to the train station. There’s plenty of food and attractions nearby. I really enjoyed my stay.

The hotel is in a nice part of the city center, away from noisy, crowded streets. It’s cozy, clean, and comfortable, and the staff are friendly. Our room was big and bright, with large windows that let in lots of daylight. The bed, pillows, blanket, and mattress were all super comfortable, and we slept really well. It was also nice to have coffee and tea in the room each day. We’ll definitely stay here again when we’re in Gießen.

After a long day travelling, I couldn’t get hot water until after 10 pm, which was really inconvenient. That’s a basic amenity that should be available at any time, and the lack of attention to details like this took away from my stay. Finding the hotel was a hassle too. Google Maps took me to the front of the building, but there were no clear signs for the entrance. I wandered around for 10 minutes and had to ask several locals before I found it. Better signs or directions from the hotel would have helped. Maybe there are positives, but these problems made the stay much less enjoyable than I expected.

I had a clean, very spacious room for three on the top floor, even though I booked for one person. The location is nice, close to the railway station and city center, and parking costs 10 euros per night. Still, I’d advise avoiding this hotel. The biggest issue was the noise. The rooms face either a very busy street or the restaurant terrace at the back. It was noisy even after the restaurant closed, and smoke came into the room. There’s no air conditioning, but opening the windows at night wasn’t an option because of the noise. Breakfast was really low quality, and the selection seemed to depend on how many people were staying. There was little choice on my first morning; the second morning, when the hotel was busier, offered more variety. Check-in also took a long time. There were only two people ahead of me, but I waited about 20 minutes.

The room had a sewage smell that never went away. It was strong, like being near a public sewage tank, and came from both the room and bathroom. We had to freeze with the windows open just to get temporary relief. The old building seems to have been renovated to look like a city hotel, but the work was poor and doesn’t justify four stars. The entrance is hard to find among the buildings and parking area. Sharing the place with restaurant la Scala, where breakfast is served, makes things worse: the restaurant is unacceptable in its decor and service, and bad smells are constantly coming from it. Paying 440 euros for three nights was completely unacceptable.
