Hostel Goslar

I wouldn't call it the best hostel I've stayed in, but it wasn't the worst either. My room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom and shower were pretty nice. The area was quiet and pleasant, close to both the station and town center. There was no reception and I didn't see any staff during my stay. Check-in was by phone, though the guy spoke good English. You have to make your own bed, and the curtain worked, so I could close the room door. I don't understand all the bad reviews.

My stay was pleasant. The room was clean and affordable for a solo traveler, and the facilities were good apart from a lackluster kitchen. The train station is only about a five-minute walk away, so the location is fairly convenient. It seemed like some construction was going on, so maybe they're renovating or have changed owners, which could explain the bad reviews. The main doors didn't seem to be locked during the day, but the room doors all lock, and the place is on a side street.

The reception was hard to find, but our first impression improved when we called and a man came to greet us. He spoke perfect English and was polite and accommodating. We even got to choose our room. After that, though, the stay really wasn't worth it. I wouldn't recommend this place. The room was in terrible shape: a broken lamp, torn bed linen, stained curtains, and dirt and dust under the bed and behind the radiator. The hostel doors were so heavy and slammed shut with such a loud noise that it was almost impossible to sleep whenever another guest went to the toilet. The vending machine only had beer and cigarettes, so there was nothing to snack on unless you wanted one of those. We like beer, but would have preferred other options. The building looks amazing outside, but that's just a cover. Don't judge it by the outside.

The bedroom was basic, and we had to make our own beds. The shared bathroom was filthy. The receptionist wasn't helpful at all and spoke neither English nor German. I wouldn't stay there unless I was really desperate.
