Hotel Walpurgishof

The room and the hotel's facilities didn't feel up to a four-star standard, and we thought the price was too high. There may be better deals nearby. The stay was also soured at breakfast: a staff member, especially the woman working in the restaurant, wouldn't let the three of us sit at a table we'd chosen because she said it was for four. A little later, two people sat there.

The room was clean and good, and the kitchen staff were polite, helpful, and welcoming. They greeted us and made us feel comfortable at breakfast and dinner. Reception staff were very friendly too, and the massage staff were good. The food was okay, though most of the dinner dishes had little taste. I think the chef should taste them. The tall, older man at the bar who served drinks was a different story. After dinner we waited 15-30 minutes at the table to pay. My partner went to the kitchen and paid there, but the bartender came over and said, "You should pay for me not in the kitchen because I am the one who served the drinks." That didn't make sense to me. If he can't serve all the guests, he should ask a coworker for help, or take a break if he's tired. We're tourists, and our time matters too. He was very impolite, and his expression and head movements seemed rude. The small, older bartender was very kind. I hope the hotel can provide an extra electric fan in summer, because the room gets really hot and guests can't sleep well.

It's a very nice, cozy hotel, and the evening service was great. At breakfast, though, a female employee was quite rude and disrespectful to us. I hope that gets addressed.

The food is lovely, the rooms are beautiful, and the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The room cleaners and I have a secret competition going over bed-making and folding the pajamas. When we arrived, we were surprised with a free suite upgrade. We've never had such a lovely surprise, and we highly recommend staying here. The hotel is doing everything it can to make our visit memorable.
