Villa Waldfrieden

Breakfast was perfectly fine, and the price felt fair for what we got. The room itself was clean and rustic, but the shower only got lukewarm or cold. In this particular bathroom, the main light still doesn’t work, only the one over the mirror, and finding or feeling for its switch is tricky. We’d booked Hotel Hirschhaus, but arrived to find a locked building and no answer by phone. We drove to Pension Waldfrieden and learned that was where we were meant to stay, then finally reached the owners on the mobile number we’d been given. One more serious concern: the emergency exit doors were locked. In a fire, you’d better keep the key with you.

The fire doors were there, but every one was propped open with pieces of wood. Our complaints were ignored, and the television didn’t work either. We’d booked Haus Hirschmann in Goslar, then on arrival were told there was no room for us because it was full with refugees. They sent us to Pension Waldfrieden, where our room was under the roof. The bathroom heating didn’t work, and the only light was from the mirror. There wasn’t much to feel positive about.

The rolls, toppings, and coffee were fine, though breakfast was limited. The room hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived, smelled musty, and the shower was clogged. I’m only giving a star because at least one is required.

Everything was walkable from this fairly central little hotel, and we enjoyed our weekend enough to come back. It has a nice retro feel. Breakfast was okay, neither anything special nor bad.
