A wonderful place to stay. I’d definitely recommend it!

The castle gardens are gorgeous, and I’ve seldom stayed somewhere so beautiful. The holiday apartments are spacious, clean, and very well equipped. The landlady is incredibly kind and friendly.

The castle grounds were a delight to explore, with little details to discover everywhere, like a real-life Where’s Waldo book. Everything was beautiful, well maintained, and welcoming, and we’d gladly return. The four of us, two adults and two children, stayed in the upstairs apartment and loved it. It’s equipped with everything you might need and beautifully furnished. You can tell the children or grandchildren sometimes use it. There were even lovely accessories that suited the castle feel, and a Dyson V11 ready to use. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom’s underfloor heating was fantastic. It was easy to contact the owner, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. We were let in right at the promised arrival time through the huge automatic gate.

Mönchhof is in Gotha, and the little castle is privately owned. The castle itself isn’t open to visitors, though you can book an overnight stay. The front part of the park is open to everyone, while the back is reserved for the owners. Entry is free, restrooms are available, and there’s a small parking lot, with street parking as the other option. The beautifully landscaped park has places to sit and can be a good source of ideas for decorations and planting. It’s wheelchair accessible, and aerial drone footage of the whole park is available online. A few festivals take place through the year, with food and drinks, and visitors can see the private section on those occasions.
