Most of the hotel feels pretty standard, but the internet situation is a serious problem. The Wi-Fi doesn’t work, and somehow even regular mobile data barely works inside the building. If you need to check so much as one email during your stay, I’d look at another hotel. Expect no usable internet for the entire visit.

Some of the staff were really kind, and the young woman who brought us two coffees for the road was especially thoughtful. But our stay was so uncomfortable that we left after the second night, even though we’d paid for five. The room smelled bad when we arrived, so we kept the windows open all night, and by morning the smell had gone. The staircase had a strong chemical detergent smell that even made my dog sneeze. The toilet was dirty, with a dingy blue underside to the lid, the bathroom towels were ragged, and the sheets and linens felt synthetic. The hotel entrance felt clinically dreary too. The card reader for the second floor door didn’t work properly. I spent three to five minutes trying to get in, and once it failed completely, so my husband had to come up in the elevator from the floor below and let us through. The worst part was dealing with the woman we think was the owner or manager. She was rude when we arrived and in later interactions, which made the whole experience even harder, especially at a four star hotel. Our service dog was allowed to stay the night but not come to breakfast, so we went elsewhere the next morning. When we returned to ask for a refund, she said the dog could now sit at a table in the corner, away from everyone. By then we didn’t think breakfast could be worth the cost and asked for the 18 euros back because of the dog. She bluntly refused. I hate writing such a negative review when other staff were so nice, but I couldn’t bear staying any longer. I did appreciate the coffees.

We were six people and came in for dinner, but the place made us feel unwelcome from the moment we entered. We were the only customers. The owner sat behind the bar watching a TV series at full volume. We asked the waitress to turn it down; he lowered it a little and moved the TV closer to the bar, clearly wanting to finish watching. The waitress was lovely and looked embarrassed by the situation. Never again. Pretty much closed for wealth. Very, very sad.

I’d been unsure about booking because of the other reviews, but I’m glad I went. The rooms were clean, the property was nice, the staff friendly, and both breakfast and the hotel restaurant were excellent. Having private parking made everything easier, and it’s right on the main street. The only small downside was that even the receptionists spoke broken English, though that seems to be a problem all over Germany. I’d book again, definitely five stars.
