It’s a small apartment in a very central spot, which was excellent. The furnishings and decor really leave a lot to be desired, though, and there are better apartments around. It didn’t feel like this one was being properly maintained. Cheap doesn’t always mean good.

I can’t recommend Apartment 22 in Haus Solymar. The apartment is in bad shape: holes in the ceiling, pictures missing from the walls, bedside and floor lamps that don’t work, a missing dishwasher front, and sharp screws sticking out of the wall. The bathroom needs renovation, the sink drains poorly, and the water heater is right in the shower with no safety clearance. It’s also on a busy, very noisy street. Inside, the building is run down, and the hallway cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired :-( For this price, the value just isn’t there. Not recommended.

Solymar House, Apartment Schatulle has one good thing going for it: the location. We paid €75 per day, and I’ve never stayed in a vacation rental this bad. I’m not usually picky, but the place is packed with broken furniture and carpets, and the value is awful. The cupboards are falling apart, the carpets smell, and there’s mold under the sink, which you can smell too. The kitchen has all the equipment you’d need, but it’s greasy and very dirty. It feels as if people keep bringing in more furniture and things without considering whether they’re useful. The apartment looks like it hasn’t had a proper clean in ages. If you’re sensitive, this place isn’t for you. Sorry, I really can’t find anything positive to say about it.

At times, there was a serious ant problem in the ground-floor hallway and apartment of building C. Parking was difficult too, especially on sunny days and weekends. We had a permit to use the spaces in front, but cars were often left haphazardly outside the marked bays, and many didn’t have a permit visible. The lot was much emptier at night, so I assume people were parking illegally to go to the beach. The barrier is usually open and enforcement seems rare. This needs to be dealt with so authorized guests can actually find a space.
