Hotel-Gasthof Krone

A peaceful hotel with warm hospitality. I had a good stay.

Breakfast was included and was wonderful. The place itself felt cozy too.

That rooftop terrace was such a nice place to unwind after dinner, and the service was friendly throughout. The country inn itself is lovely, too. I had the best beef carpaccio I’ve ever eaten outside the Krone Eschental. I’ll definitely return. I didn’t take photos of the beautifully presented food. Sometimes it’s better to just enjoy the meal without your phone :)

The meals were a bright spot. Dinner and breakfast had plenty to choose from, tasted good, and were presented nicely. The staff were pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. I can’t say the same for the owning family: they were very taciturn, extremely unfriendly, and not helpful to guests at all. We had the worst service we’ve ever experienced, and we stay in hotels often. The Hotel Krone is very old, noisy, and smells of cigarette smoke. It needs a complete renovation. The rooms are okay, but a safe and shower gel would improve them. There was also vermin in the room, which nobody wants. The property, the much too small bicycle shed, and the terrace were messy and neglected. It gave the impression the owners didn’t want to run a hotel. The hotel sits right beside a busy main road. Parking is limited, there’s a major construction site next door at the moment, and most of the terrace furniture is broken. The mattresses are worn out and far too soft. The hallway water dispenser doesn’t work, though the cleaning lady leaves a bottle of water each day. Wi-Fi was completely unreliable and didn’t work at all. Inside and outside, things looked haphazardly done and decorated, and extremely messy. The photos show four examples among many: the breakfast room bulbs barely worked, and only one of the eight bulbs in a chandelier was working. The bathroom hairdryer cord had been “repaired” with tape, which I thought was extremely dangerous. The communal fridge in the hallway was dirty, as were the glasses on it, and it sat on a precarious makeshift stand. In the restaurant, an old window resting on a pallet served as a room divider and a tripping hazard. It’s a shame, because the owners could do much more with the property without major investment. Being friendly and keeping things orderly costs nothing. Then the hotel could really live up to its name, “Krone.”
