Hotel Reiterhof Altmühlsee

You feel welcome as soon as you arrive, thanks to the friendly, professional staff. The rooms are modern, clean, and newly renovated. There’s also a sauna and pool. The pool is a little older, but it’s well cared for and perfectly adequate. In the morning, you get a lovely view of the equestrian center and its horses, and you can relax beside the open fireplace. A very pleasant hotel with a harmonious atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We booked two nights at Hotel Reiterhof Altmühlsee after looking on Booking.com for good value near Lake Brombach. It’s in the village of Wald, by Lake Altmühlsee. Our room was clean and newly renovated, and they provided a cot for free. Everyone was very kind to children. The outside looks a little dated, especially the balconies and facade, but inside the new rooms are nicely furnished and spacious. There’s a lot on the grounds: riding stables, a playground, a small petting zoo, restaurant, bicycle storage, children’s playroom, and indoor pool with sauna. We don’t ride, though I’m sure lots of guests come for riding holidays. We had dinner at the restaurant and really enjoyed it. The other guests’ meals looked appetizing too. Breakfast is included, simple, but with something for everyone. We can see why people feel comfortable here, and would happily come back. It seems especially good for children.

The steak was fantastic, and the prices were remarkably good for the quality, taste, and portions. There’s a wide choice of dishes, with tempting vegetarian options too. My wife especially liked the Indian soup, though I found it a bit too salty. We had dinner at the Reiterhof today and were glad we finally tried it. The service was attentive and friendly, and even with lots of guests the mood stayed relaxed. The fireplace and riding arena make for a memorable setting, and there’s a playroom for children. We’ll certainly return more often. As a restaurant and inn, the Reiterhof should advertise more and make better use of its online presence, especially Instagram. Events or other ways of inviting people in could help. Thanks for a lovely evening.
