The room was clean, spacious and well organized, and the staff were friendly. Still, I wasn't fully satisfied with the service or the missing basics. There was no tea or coffee machine, the bathroom amenities weren't proper, and the minibar didn't fully work. Breakfast was very limited in both quality and choice, and didn't match what was advertised. I was travelling for work, so comfort and proper service matter to me, and I didn't get what I expected. I wouldn't choose this place for a future business trip. Better room amenities and breakfast could make the stay much better.

For a hotel that considers itself 4*, there are a lot of little things that take away from the stay. The WLAN is only 0.4 MBit, the shower head won't stay fixed properly, there's no shower curtain or complimentary water in the room, and cappuccino at breakfast costs extra. I've never experienced that at a hotel in this category. There's no salmon, either. The light wood used for renovations, like on the stairs, looks terrible beside the original dark wood. It's a beautiful hotel for a reasonable price and definitely worth it, but these unnecessary details spoil some of the experience.

I remember being welcomed warmly, even though the house, or “hotel,” was only at the very start of its renovation. By coincidence and good luck, I stayed there on May 1, 1993, after coming by train, including the Harz steam narrow gauge, because I was interested in Muthesius buildings. I was given a large room overlooking the front entrance, furnished with just a single bed and wash basin. It was a chance to experience both the house and a sense of what the place was like in DDR days. I hope I can come back and see the obvious luxury it has today. Best wishes to the current owners and management, and sincere thanks to the Klamroth decendants for preserving this elegant landmark.

The check-in went fine, but then I found a black widow spider near the bed in my room. Those spiders are poisonous. I asked the woman at reception to move me to another room and she refused. Someone then came over claiming to be the manager, shouted at me and told me to leave. I was shocked. I only wanted a solution and didn't want a headache. The receptionist was polite, but the manager was extremely rude and unprofessional. He called the police, who only told me to take it up with the booking company and leave. This hotel was a nightmare, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I moved to another hotel in the same area.

I had a nice breakfast spread, and the staff were helpful and pleasant. It's quite a little hotel, beautiful in its own way.
