The airport ride costs €27 through the hotel, while a regular taxi is about €15, if you're feeling adventurous. And with the hotel so far from civilization, your dining choices are conveniently limited to a €34 Wiener Schnitzel. It arrived with the confidence of something just freed from a freezer and dropped into oil that's seen things, while the staff were still waiting for their tips. Breakfast carries on the mood. By 9 am, even the salami seems to have taken on a philosophical shade. Around the hotel, the walls look like they've kept their historical paintwork, and the furniture has clearly been around for more optimistic decades. A general air of gentle neglect follows you through the stay. Even before you get to the room, there's a faint wastewater smell, and the receptionist asks for your card as insurance against the minibar's temptations. From the moment you walk in, you get the distinct impression you'd have been wiser to choose somewhere else. Welcome to Mövenpick Hotel Munich Airport.

The room was fantastic, and I think we may have been upgraded. It looked out toward the airport and had a window that opened, so we could watch planes before checkout. The man who checked us in was lovely, too. After around 20 hours of travel, a smiling face was very welcome. There was quite a drain smell when we first came in. Closing the bathroom door kept it contained, so it wasn't too bad, but it's worth knowing about. At checkout I tried to use our welcome drinks for a couple of bottles of water. The receptionist sent me to the bar, but nobody was working there. When I went back, she seemed unsure what to do. There was sparkling water in a fridge near her, but no still water. We were in a hurry, so we left without any. Not a huge issue, just not ideal. We'd happily stay again, but I'd bring air freshener for the drains.

The service was excellent, and the dinner at the restaurant was good, although a bit pricey, as you'd expect near an airport where prices tend to be inflated. We also appreciated the complimentary lobby minibar upgrade. The room was clean and adequate, but it needs some updating. It also had a slight smell, like it may have been a smoking room in the past.

We arrived a little before the usual check-in time, and the staff kindly let us into our clean, good room early. That was much appreciated. The bus stop is very close, and a shopping center is about ten minutes away. A very good stay overall.
