Hotel Alt Montjoie

The vegan and Mediterranean flammkuchen were good, and that's what earned the restaurant its three points from me. The pasta al Arrabiata and tomato soup were awful, though, and seemed to come from cans. I wouldn't order either of those here.

We stopped in for flammkuchen, and it was great. The owner added a few extra toppings, too. Lovely owners. We really liked the place.

The bed was amazing, honestly the best hotel bed I've slept in. The room also had a great view of the local river, and the heating worked well and warmed up quickly on a cold night. The mini bar was missing, which was the one thing we noticed. The hostess was kind and gave us great service, and breakfast was nice, with what you need but nothing special. Good value for the quality, a solid 9 out of 10.

The hotel is lovely and very clean, with good beds, and I appreciated being able to choose a larger pillow. The staff were polite. I stayed at Alt Monjoie just before high season and had a pleasant time. Monschau itself is lovely, with streets that look like movie scenes, but it felt pretty dull, and most of the older visitors left by evening. There's a 14 km hike described in a folder in the room, with marvelous mountain views. Vennbad public pool is a 12-minute walk away and good for a morning swim. You can't park in the village, so you need to use one of the many lots just outside it. That actually makes the town look and feel much better.
