The reception guy really stood out. He was friendly, respectful, always smiling, and ready to help, going out of his way to make sure my stay was smooth and stress-free. The hostel itself was a great choice too, neat and well maintained. Excellent service and hospitality!

For all the hostel’s system problems, I’d still consider staying again. It’s a five-minute walk from Berliner Tor station, the room was otherwise good, and one night of live entertainment came as a welcome surprise and went down well with guests. A car park isn’t needed by most people staying here. Checking in was easy to book, but A&O Hostels’ central system hadn’t assigned us a room. Reception took 15 minutes to sort it out. Housekeeping was another problem. You have to request it in the A&O app, which didn’t work, or scan a QR code on the back of the room door. It seems odd that this isn’t arranged through the booking. All rooms start with no housekeeping, so guests have to ask for it. That might be OK for one or two nights, but we stayed six. We had no housekeeping on four of those nights, even after reception finally arranged it. It seemed the housekeeping team cleaned the room only if they remembered. The Wi-Fi was the worst I’ve had at any hotel. In a 500-room place with an average guest age in the low twenties, it was virtually impossible to read email on the free Wi-Fi. I’ve never stayed anywhere else where 5G felt required despite free Wi-Fi being available. The room TV remote showed about 60 channels, but only six actually worked; the rest were unavailable. There’s no air conditioning, so in high summer you have to sleep with the windows open or rent an electric fan from reception.

The team were helpful and cooperative throughout, and our room was clean. I had a comfortable stay with excellent service in a well managed place. One thing to know: using the guest kitchen utensils requires a €20 deposit by card, after which you get plates, spoons, and the other utensils.
