B&B Hotel Hamburg City-Ost

The hotel was clean and tidy, but I wouldn't recommend staying here in winter. The room was so cold it felt like an open refrigerator. I set the air conditioner to 28°, stayed on the bed in my jacket, and waited 30-40 minutes, but it was still cold. I went to reception for help, and another employee showed me how to adjust the controller, though I'd already done that and nothing changed. When I wondered if the unit was broken, he offered another room. There, too, the air conditioner was set to 25°, and I spent about an hour in my jacket waiting to warm up enough to shower. There's no heating or other way to warm the bathroom, and it smelled like sewage. I had also paid for the night online, but on arrival a young woman asked me to pay about 3€ before checking my room. That had never happened to me before, despite traveling often.

The room on the 7th floor had a soft mattress that didn't meet B&B Hotel standards. There was no free water in the room, so I had to ask reception for some, and both the TV and bathroom were small. The area felt insecure, with street and park renovations underway. It was dark and noisy, close to the train line. A disappointing place.

The windows did a good job blocking construction noise from the neighboring building, and the room had an effective wall controller for the AC when the windows were shut. Rooms were very clean and looked renovated, though there was a strange smell in the 7th-floor elevator hallway. The shower was clean and good, but bring shampoo since B&B hotels only provide 3-in-1 soap. It's a very good cheap hotel with what you need and plenty of places to eat somewhat nearby. The location is a bit far from tourist fun in Hamburg, but there are electric bikes and Bolt rental cars by the kilometer, and parking in the city is surprisingly easy for a big city. For the money, it's the best value in town.

The room was thoughtfully laid out and well kept, and the price is really good for this quality. You can spot the hotel logo from far away. The man at the desk and the woman in the morning were nice. The only thing is, the janitors should act like they're in a hotel, not a tavern.
