We booked and paid for two nights but left after just one, moving to another hotel the morning after we arrived. The rooms and shared areas, including the stairwells, toilets and kitchen, smelled awful, like damp, smoke and mold mixed together. The area also didn’t feel safe for vacationers. I absolutely can’t recommend this place. If you’re visiting Hamburg, I’d choose somewhere else.

The location is great, and the kitchen had everything we needed, though you have to reserve it in advance. Staff were friendly, but only around for three hours a day. The Wi-Fi connected but never gave us internet, and we couldn’t even find anyone to complain to. The room looked like its interior hadn’t been updated in 20 years. Our closet was broken, my bed was very hard, and noise came through the walls and windows from other guests and passing cars, so I slept badly. The bathroom was tiny with nowhere for toiletries. Just remember this is more like a small flat spread across three blocks than a hotel.

The reception is only staffed for three hours, by teenagers who were okay. The place was really dirty, and the poor sound insulation made it noisy. I was worried I might have picked up some weird German disease from staying there. Maybe it works for a young adult who gets very drunk and forgets how bad the accommodation is, but don’t expect a good or cozy stay. For a family, it’s a big no.

The Wi-Fi is so bad I wouldn’t bother connecting. The place is in a hip area near the center, and it’s reasonably clean and tidy, though a bit bare. The railway line right beside it makes it a poor choice for light sleepers. Management also seems reluctant to replace bulbs, especially in the stairwells.
