Gastwerk Hotel Hamburg

The hotel and rooms are heavily decorated but have a nice atmosphere. It’s quiet, the staff are very hospitable, and breakfast is hearty with a good variety. It’s a bit expensive for its location, but I’d still recommend it.

Dinner was a highlight, with a good menu and a thoughtfully chosen wine list, and the hotel had a polished but relaxed feel. Gastwerk Hotel Hamburg is a striking conversion of an industrial building, with lots of space and a distinctive style. We stayed one night; although it's a little outside the city center, the surroundings are quiet and could suit someone wanting a calmer visit. At checkout, though, I mentioned that I'd misplaced a necklace, and the conversation became tense. The response lacked the empathy and professionalism I expected from a 4-star hotel. Things can go wrong, but how they're handled matters. That exchange took away from what had otherwise been a very positive stay.

The old factory look works really well with the modern, classy design, and the hotel has a style all its own. The rooms are nicely laid out, clean, and well serviced. Staff were polite and made us feel welcome. For what you pay, it's a great-value place to stay.

The hotel's own bar and restaurant are both worth recommending, and the staff there were just as friendly and accommodating as the rest of the team. I was here for business, and the corporate event held on the premises was managed really well. The hotel itself has a great industrial feel.
