Bettenburg Hotel

For the price, the room is clean and very comfortable. The smoking areas on each floor are easy to get to, and reception staff are professional and very helpful. S-Bahn connections make reaching the city center simple. I’m looking forward to staying here again.

BRING A BLUELIGHT IF YOU’RE STAYING HERE!!!! The room was nothing like the photos, more like the size of a matchbox. There was rubbish under the bed, including wrappers and pamphlets, and the carpet was stained and dirty. The decor was worn and run-down, and the hallway stank of cigarettes. The shower had no hot water. From some of the other reviews, I guess at least we got clean sheets. Even with the low price, I wouldn’t come back and wouldn’t recommend staying here.

I’m shocked by how this hotel handles guests. Housekeeping tried to open my door while I was asleep yesterday, then said I was meant to leave that day and told me to open up. She spoke rudely. When I tried German, she aggressively said she didn’t understand and demanded English, asking if I understood her. The same thing happened again this morning. Staff opening doors while guests are sleeping without knocking or asking is completely unacceptable. The hotel doesn’t provide Do Not Disturb signs at all. Housekeeping also talks loudly on the phone, laughs, and makes noise while cleaning, so there’s no peace or rest. My room was awful, too. It’s impossible to shower properly, especially if you need to wash your body and hair. They provide only two towels, and once the bathroom floor is wet there’s nothing left to dry it or yourself. The soap was almost empty when I arrived, with only a little at the bottom. After a 15-hour journey without sleep, I asked reception if I could check in before the official 3 pm time, perhaps around 10 am. They refused without trying to help, so I had to wander outside. There’s no proper place to wait, just dirty, uncleaned tables, cheap black plastic chairs, and extremely loud music overhead. It’s impossible to rest there. Service was terrible: when I asked for water because I was very thirsty, the receptionist gave me a tiny cup of tap water. When I said I needed more, he said they couldn’t provide any other water. I’ve never experienced anything like this and don’t recommend this hotel under any circumstances.

The location has a bus stop and S-Bahn nearby, but it’s a long way from the city center. The room is very small, and the glass bathroom door gives no privacy. There’s no full-length mirror, mini fridge, or hair dryer. The carpeted floor and curtains hanging off their track also feel really outdated. I know these are budget rooms, but what’s offered shouldn’t be this bad. The staff weren’t friendly, just going through the motions. Saving money by staying at this hotel/hostel definitely isn’t worth it.
