Hotel Fürst Bismarck

The building is a lovely renovated historic property, close to the main train station, with nicely furnished, very clean rooms. Most of the staff are friendly and welcoming. I’d been a happy regular for 13 years, but after some unpleasant events during and after my last visit in October 2025, I can’t stay here anymore. At breakfast, one staff member asked me to leave 15 minutes after the buffet closed, saying she wanted to finish work. I was the only guest left and had just finished eating. I’ve never seen this happen when a whole group stayed later, sometimes much later. This same person had done it on a previous visit, which I mentioned in a review, and that was the first time I gave less than a full rating. I asked her name and calmly said I didn’t like being made to leave as soon as I’d finished, as though I were in a hostel, and didn’t feel respected as a customer. I’d arrived and served myself about 10 minutes before the buffet closed. She told me I should come earlier. When I said she didn’t seem to understand and I’d tell management, she replied, translated from German, “Yes, do complain.” I stayed another five to seven minutes. While I was there, she demonstratively swept the floor beside me, clearly showing she thought I was in her way. She’d never greeted me when I arrived or left, even when I greeted her, never smiled, and cleared my table without asking, unlike the other staff. I emailed management because I’d been happy with the hotel for years and with the rest of the staff. Their reply shocked me. They mainly said they could find nothing wrong with her behavior and that I could choose another hotel if their procedures and conditions didn’t meet my expectations, translated from German. After being treated so condescendingly and arrogantly, I’ll find somewhere else for my regular Hamburg visits.
