Hotel Neugrabener Hof

We were already committed to a nonrefundable stay after mistaking this place for another hotel we’d used before, so we tried to keep an open mind. That didn’t last long. Just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, reception was shut even though the listing says it’s open around the clock. The number on the door led to someone who said we had to pay a tourism tax before getting our key. It wasn’t mentioned on the hotel or Hotels.com site, where fees were listed as payable at checkout. There were groups of men smoking and drinking outside, which made me want to leave. My wife was worn out from travelling, so I paid and we went up. The room smelled of stale cigarettes and there was loud noise from what seemed like a party next door. With no proper reception to help and little chance of sleeping, we left. The Delphi Hotel in Neu Wulmstorf welcomed us into a clean, modern room within 20 minutes. Hotel Neugrabener Hof is cheap, but I don’t think it’s good value and wouldn’t recommend it.

We had a great stay in the three-bed room. The room was clean, the bathroom spotless, and the mini fridge came in handy. Staff were really nice, too. There’s free parking, a bakery across the street, and plenty of restaurants nearby. Nothing to complain about.

The room was quiet, which mattered more to me than its worn-out feel. Service was friendly, breakfast decent, though you might have to wait for a table. With parking here and public transport available, it’s a good option for a short stay when you mainly need somewhere to sleep.

The little fridge in the room was a big plus, and there was plenty of room in the large closet. Breakfast is available for an extra fee. We arrived late and found free parking behind the hotel, though the spaces were a bit tight. It’s a really nice place with old-fashioned charm on the edge of the city. It reminded me of Fawlty Towers, in a good way. Not everything has to be shiny white and fancy 😊
