Elaya Hotel Hamburg Finkenwerder

Breakfast today was a very unpleasant experience. The fish had visible fungal mold on it. I told the staff right away, and they took it back, but it should never have been served like that. Food safety and quality control matter a lot, and this was a serious lapse. I was very disappointed.

The restaurant was a real highlight. We ate at the hotel almost every day and never got tired of the options, and the food quality was a pleasant surprise. Tino and Eva from the bar and restaurant made the stay especially memorable. They were welcoming, kind to our dog, and flexible about my dietary restrictions. They were always up for a smile or a chat, and every request, from a fan or iron to slippers, was handled kindly and usually within minutes. Our 50m² suite suited us well because we spent many afternoons and evenings in the room while preparing for our boat license course in Finkenwerder. The atmosphere was peaceful. The carpet and sofa showed some wear, and although air conditioning units were visible, they didn’t work. The hotel wasn’t our first choice in Hamburg, but we were glad we stayed here. Some parts feel dated, though the service and restaurant made up for that.

The restaurant and breakfast were good, and the riverside rooms have a great view. Those were the bright spots. My room had no sheets, pillows, or towels, and the shampoo bottle was empty. Colleagues had similar problems in other rooms. One lift was out of service, and the other acted erratically and sometimes wouldn’t move when called. Maintenance seems to be a low priority, and the hotel feels badly managed. I’ll avoid it next time.

A great spot for shipspotters, with plenty of room in the guest rooms, though they could use renovation. Dinner was delicious and breakfast very good. The staff were friendly, although some didn’t seem very engaged.
