Hotel Marienthal

We were part of a wedding group, and our friends had arranged for our rooms to be together. The morning this happened, we even asked reception for an iron. Nobody said we needed to check out or that there was any problem with our stay. Later, we got the explanation, “you asked for the iron, not if you should leave.” We had a confirmed booking at Hotel Marienthal Garni, but arrived to find there was no room for us. Staff left us waiting for over an hour while they tried to “clarify” a problem caused by their own disorganization. They said they hadn’t received some requested details, but also admitted they’d never contacted us to ask for them. They spoke almost no English, so it was very difficult to communicate. The manager initially seemed ready to help over the phone, but even though we thought the issue had been sorted out, we later found our belongings packed without our knowledge or consent, and we’d been kicked out. Our things, including wedding gifts, had been thrown together carelessly and treated with no respect. We came to Hamburg for a special occasion and ended up out on the street with our belongings dumped together like trash. There was no empathy, accountability, or effort to put things right. This treatment was disgraceful and completely unprofessional. It’s nowhere near a 3-star standard, and I would not recommend the hotel to anyone. Avoid it.
